Roster shape

Every nation has the same 33-player shape: 3 goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 12 midfielders and 8 attackers. It keeps comparisons fair and forces real choices when the bench gets deep.

Selection criteria

• Peak level — how good they were at their best.
• Era weight — adjusted for the football of their time, not raw silverware count.
• International contribution — caps, tournaments, decisive moments for the nation.
• Historical consensus — how the football world remembers them today.
• Position scarcity — to give every position a fair slot.

Tier system

Overall ratings collapse into five tiers so the gap between a generational player and a country-great is visible at a glance.

• GOAT98–99Once-in-a-generation. Universally argued as the greatest.
• Immortal95–97Top-tier legends whose place in history is settled.
• Mythic92–94Elite peak, multi-trophy careers, decade-defining.
• Legend88–91Country-defining stars, frequent international honours.
• Icon84–87Iconic for the nation, strong era impact.
